Innovative solvents

Solvent-based cleaners remove residues that water-based cleaners are unable to tackle – such as bitumen, resins, adhesives, paints or polymers. Eco-Nova develops solvent-based cleaners with the aim of avoiding hazardous substances as far as possible: according to their safety data sheets, many are not classified as hazardous, whilst some specialist products are labelled as such.

Problem and Solution

The challenge

Conventional solvents such as acetone, isopropanol, MEK and toluene are highly flammable, some are harmful to health, and they evaporate quickly. They require explosion protection, ventilation, protective equipment and special storage conditions, and pollute the indoor air with VOCs.

Our solution

With our solvent-based cleaners, we take care to avoid hazardous substances as far as possible. According to their safety data sheets, many are not classified as hazardous, for example Nova Safe S, Combisolv TR, Topclean and Bituclean. For particularly stubborn tasks, there are also specialised products available. We can advise you on which cleaner is best suited to your task and your health and safety requirements.

Typical areas of application

  • Bitumen, tar and asphalt
  • Adhesives and hot-melt adhesives
  • Paints, inks and varnishes
  • Polymers such as PU and latex
  • Roll and machine cleaning

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Are solvent-based cleaners always dangerous?
No. The key factor is the classification under the CLP Regulation. According to the safety data sheet, many of Eco-Nova’s solvent-based cleaners are not classified as hazardous, whilst some specialist products are labelled as such. The details can be found in the safety data sheet.
When should I use a solvent-based cleaner rather than a water-based one?
If the contamination does not dissolve in water or can be emulsified – typically in the case of bitumen, resins, hardened adhesives, paints or polymers. Water-based cleaners are often sufficient for oils, greases and dust.
Are there any alternatives to conventional solvents?
For many applications, yes – for example, cleaning products not classified as hazardous, such as Nova Safe S or Topclean. Which one is suitable depends on the type of dirt and the surface. Try it out first with a free sample.
Where can I find the classification of a cleaning product?
In the safety data sheet, section 2. You can request a copy at any time via our contact form.
